Coastal Resilience — Our New Coast©

It’s common knowledge that coastlines are changing around the globe, that processes driving change are accelerating, and are long term. Dr. Crist has been working with coastal regions and communities since 2004 to deal with these changes, helping communities deal with coastal hazards, changing coastlines, and improving long-term resiliency using natural and nature-based solutions. For example, Dr. Crist led a large, multi-organizational and multi-disciplinary team to conduct seven coastal vulnerability assessments around the U.S. resulting in a map prioritizing locations of high human asset and community vulnerability with high potential to improve resilience through habitat conservation and restoration. He also worked with Duke University to conduct assessments of vulnerability and resilience for six Northeast US States’s coastal regions.

PlanIt Forward will help you understand current and future risk and develop near and long term strategies and plans to mitigate risk and develop a safe and productive relationship with your ever-changing coast. PlanIt Forward calls this program “Our New Coast” that seeks to understand the future of coastal change in a region and plan appropriate and feasible adaptation.
