Dr. Crist led a multi-disciplinary team to develop a decision support toolkit for Save the Redwoods League and conduct a variety of assessments, models, and prioritizations. Save the Redwood League required a new comprehensive plan to mark its centennial in operation. The decision support toolkit used the NatureServe Vista ArcGIS extension as the core assessment and planning tool; it was augmented with a species distribution model, the Linkage Mapper connectivity modeling software, and Marxan to calculate the irreplaceability, or how important each site is to provide for SRL’s objectives. Vista provided cumulative effects assessment of different functional stages of redwood forest and many forest dependent species; and was used to generate inputs to Marxan to create a prioritization for areas to preserve old growth/late stage forest and areas suitable for restoration to put on an old growth succession track. PlanIt Forward can help your organization to understand how the current landscape/seascape supports your conservation objectives, locations and causes of conflict now and in the future, and develop strategies and plans to meet conservation goals.
