The Integrated Ecological Framework for Long Range Transportation Planning

Dr. Crist was co-lead of this very ambitious project for the Transportation Research Board; later operationalized by the Federal Highway Agency and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. Working with an extensive partnership, this project conducted research into methods and case studies for implementing Eco-Logical, a process adopted by the U.S. Department of Transportation with signatories from multiple federal agencies. The team prototyped a multi-step process that included stakeholder engagement and spatial analysis and planning. Three pilot projects were conducted using the NatureServe Vista decision support system. I served as co-PI and wrote extensive components of the guides. This project developed a report, detailed technical guide, and managers’ guide to conduct the technical steps of Eco-Logical via the Integrated Ecological Framework. PlanIt Forward can assist your organization in integrating conservation in all stages and scales of transportation planning.
