Dr. Crist initiated the development of the NatureServe Vista software in a pilot project for Napa County; working with The Land Trust of Napa County and Funded by The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. The project team included a science and GIS team consisting of NatureServe’s Chief Ecologist, Chief Zoologist, GIS specialist; economists from USGS; and a biogeographer from UC Santa Barbara. This effort included scoping and client workshops, development of the conservation science methodology, data development, and GIS analyses and product development. While the land trust was not GIS-capable, a database of biodiversity content and relative irreplaceability (importance) of every parcel in the county was generated. This work ultimately informed a $20M conservation purchase. PlanIt Forward can help your organization with conservation planning, NatureServe Vista, and other decision support needs.
