Integrating conservation, land use, and green infrastructure

Comparison of land use scenarios for Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments.

How communities use and occupy land to meet our needs arguably has the most dramatic and long-term effect on ecosystems and the services they provide. Dr. Crist has worked with a variety of local and regional government planning agencies to integrate conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services in their plans. A variety of frameworks can be used to achieve this, one being Green Infrastructure Planning. For example, Dr. Crist worked with the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico to assess how the draft national land use plan would impact areas of biodiversity value and delivery of drinking water. PlanIt Forward works with your planners and stakeholders to integrate multiple objectives in your land use planning. We build capacity to rapidly evaluate your current and potential future landscape against your objectives, identify conflicts and strategies, develop and test plan alternatives, and adaptively implement your plan on a routine basis.
